Yennefer of Vengerberg
DLC Outfit
(The Witcher 3 Video Game, 2015)
Costume build for ComicCon. Reference images from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. What drew me to replicating this costume was the intricacy of details, whilst also being very simple. As I was working with a small budget, I used items I already had, cheap second-hand items I could tailor, or fabric to make things from scratch.
Boots + Knee Pads
I bought some cheap boots off eBay to use as a base, which I painted to match closer.
For Yennefer’s knee pads that are part of amour, so made of metal, I stencilled and traced the design on thick EVA foam, then used heat to open, seal and mould the pads.
From there I sanded and covered them in Mod-Podge multiple times to create a smooth, metallic surface. I spray painted them silver and used dry and wet brushing techniques for detailing the design.
The foam knee pads were then attached to pleather fabric knee pads with velcro for easy transportation. I also made the leg straps out of pleather material and finished them with push studs.
All items were either attached via velcro or hot glue, which held up well during the convention.
Corset
To make the corset I wrapped myself in cling film and topped it with duct tape. This allowed me to draw on the pattern of the corset to fit my body shape correctly. These pieces were cut out and transferred onto my faux leather fabric; this isn’t a traditional style corset and has no boning for comfort reasons, but the pattern of curves helped it to keep it’s own shape.
I machine sewed the main components together. The contrast stitching was all done by hand, as well as punching the holes of the grommets.
Main Clothes
At its simplest, Yennefer’s costume consists of a two panelled skirt and an off-shoulder top. For the top I made from scratch, I used a silk fabric, created a tube at the top and threaded string through to secure it. I attached two different feather embellishments along the top.
The skirt was just two panels of fabric sewn together onto a waistband with leather trimming. The panels were cut in a way to have two slits showing the legs. Under the skirt, I wore shorts I already owned. Other accessories, socks and belts, I also already owned.
Accessories
For final touches, I bought cheap gloves and made a neck scarf out of leftover fabrics, and did the same for the choker and arm straps. I also bought a lace front wig and styled it prior to the convention to save time and make it easier to wear.
