CAPTAIN AMERICA SHIELD

(CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, 2014)

Prop for ComicCon. Reference images from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Commissioned piece.

Build

The shield is made from EVA foam that I heated and moulded to shape. The grooves were scored with a craft knife and heated up to open them and seal the foam.

The back of the shield is painted silver and weathered with black. The rivets were made from googly eyes. All other details were made out of more craft foam.

Painting

I underpainted the shield with silver then masked off the areas that were to be blue and red. Again I weathered the shield with dry brushing highlights, and wet brushing the shadows.

The back was finished with highlights and shadows too, as well as some faux leather straps.
