I used warm tones for the living area, taking inspiration from my research. I loved the sofa that was at the Airbnb and wanted it to be the focus and so items placed on and around were different colours to make it pop. All props were from different generations in my family, adding to Mallory’s family lore. There are lots of details within the décor as well.
I decorated the fridge with postcards and old family photos from holidays. I wanted to show a previous life that Mallory probably never knew.
. I used wallpaper and stuck it to the wall with painter’s tape to minimise any damage to the existing walls. The walls aren’t meant to be perfect as Mallory has tried to DIY some things around her house.
For the photographs around the room, I used pictures of my great-grandma and her family. I felt like Mallory would keep her mother’s photos and belongings long after she had passed, and feel this is a tradition that had been passed down to her by her mother.
Mallory has trinkets around her apartment that were from her childhood or her mother’s like the conch shell, the chair of teddies and multiple books.
