Mallory

We wanted Mallory to seem part of her environment and to blend in, wearing clothes that seem like they could be her mother’s. The clothes shouldn’t fit quite right and are out of date, and so a lot of our inspirations were from 70s/80s films or films that had a timeless aesthetic. The colours we decided should match her home and be different hues and tones to Olivia to emphasise their contrast.

We wanted Olivia to stand out compared to Mallory’s home and make the audience aware that this film is set in modern times. Her colours are brighter and richer in tone and are more pink and blue. As she is young, we think Olivia would stay stylish even when pregnant, but also prioritise comfort. Her character inspirations were a lot more modern than Mallory’s.
